SOMEONE IS WATCHING
My alarm clock went off this morning at 7;15. It is Sunday, and I need to get up and get ready for chapel. I hit the snooze button, and I literally have a conversation in my head.
I am thinking it is cold outside. I am so tired that I should just go back to sleep. I really don´t want to get up, but then another thought crosses my mind. Do I love sleep more than I love obeying God? Wow! Now I am 100% awake!
So I got out of bed, got dressed, and went to chapel. During the service, the preacher spoke to us about obeying God in our daily walk and talk and telling others about Jesus. People we come in contact with need to see Jesus in us.
As I was walking back to my room, I was so thankful that I had gone to church. I walked into my cell, and a former roommate asked, "Joy, did you go to church?" I smiled and said, "Yes, I did." Then it hit me -- I´m being watched! Many of these women know that I am a Christian, and they are watching and listening to me to see if I am real. God has given me an awesome responsibility to show Christ to those around me. I am so glad that I obeyed God this morning.
Update: After the revival services in February, I had the same dilemma again, and God reminded me that my life is not about me and how I feel. God´s purpose for my life is to glorify Him, and that can be really hard when my flesh wants control. I need to make a choice daily. This verse came to mind from Joshua 24:15.
"And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."
