Praise the Lord!

July 8, 2019, I heard the judge say, "I'm sentencing you to years in prison."  I was in total shock.  This was not supposed to happen.  I had been told by my lawyer, my counselor and my therapist that I would most certainly be given probation.  Yet now I was being handcuffed and taken to a holding cell.

I had a few seconds, as an officer escorted me from the court room, to tell my parents, my pastor and his wife that I loved them while they said they were praying for me.  I was able to kiss my husband and tell him that I loved him one last time before the officer told me there was to be no further physical contact and no talking.

From the holding cell I was loaded into a van and transported to the county jail.  I experienced every emotion imaginable.  After being processed, I was locked in a woman's pod and assigned to a cell.  As tears would come to my eyes, I would wipe them away and refuse to cry.  I knew if I started crying I would not be able to stop.

During those first few days a song kept coming to mind.  I only knew three words of the chorus, so I would sing the three words and hum the rest of it.  "Praise the Lord! . . . Praise the Lord! , , ,"  Why this song?  I was raised in church from birth so why not one of the hundreds of hymns and songs that I knew so well?  I can't remember how I even knew this chorus.  Could it be that God wanted me to praise Him while I was in prison?  So I sang and hummed this song over and over throughout each day.  Once I was in prison, I found this song on a kiosk and was able to download it to my tablet so I can listen to it all the time.

No matter what you are going through, no matter how hard it is, just choose to praise the Lord.

PRAISE THE LORD

When you're up against a struggle
That shatters all your dreams
And your hopes have been cruelly crushed
By Satan's manifested schemes
And you feel the urge within you
To submit to earthly fears
Don't let the faith you're standing in
Seem to disappear.

Chorus:  Praise the Lord!
He can work through those who praise Him
Praise the Lord!
For our God inhabits praise
Praise the Lord!
For the chains that seem to bind you
Serve only to remind you
That they drop powerless behind you
When you praise Him.

Now Satan is a liar
And he wants to make us think
That we are paupers
When he knows himself
We're children of the King
So lift up the mighty shield of faith
For the battle must be won
We know that Jesus Christ has risen
So the work's already done
